Concert of Raphaël Sudan

Switzerland by Franz Liszt

The Gruyères Castle is delighted to welcome the Fribourg-born Raphaël Sudan for a recital in the Music Room. The core of the evening's programme will be extracts from the first of the three Années de pèlerinage. Myths, values and the Swiss landscape are transcribed in themes and harmonies. From the illustration of carillons in Geneva to the insertion of stylised rows of cows and the musical representation of William Tell, Liszt takes the listener on a journey through subtle sonic panoramas.

The other, later pieces on the programme bear witness to the lasting imprint left on Franz Liszt's style by the work he began in Switzerland.

Born in 1985 in Fribourg, Raphaël Sudan teaches piano and improvisation at the École de Musique du Pays-d'Enhaut in Château d'Oex. His international career has already taken him to over 30 countries. Winner of several prizes, he explores the great names in the history of music and develops his own style through improvisation.

Thanks to the historic instrument that once belonged to the composer and the decor of the music room at the Château de Gruyères, this evening is a rare opportunity to immerse yourself in the romanticism of the 19th century.
