Swiss Castle Day 2018

Have a look!

On Sunday 7 October, the Swiss Castles Association is celebrating the 3rd annual Castles Day. Fortresses and castles from all eras are offering a special programme to help visitors discover them in a different way.

In Gruyères, Chalamala, the new mascot for children, is taking up his quarters in the halls. The castle's long history is not always obvious to young visitors, but now it can be explored in the company of this cheerful character. Chalamala is the colourful guide of choice for this playful adventure, inviting children to explore the different rooms and learn about the history of the castle through observation games and fun activities.

Stilts, Mikado and chess are just some of the games we might not have realised existed in medieval times. These timeless games were part of the childhood of many generations, and we invite families to come and rediscover them and pass them on to future generations. As playing digs into the stomach, visitors can enjoy the specialities of La Compagnie des Tours, which is setting up its medieval kitchen in the courtyard. From late morning onwards, visitors will be able to eat and savour the flavours of yesteryear.

The 3rd edition of Swiss Castle Day is a partner of #Patrimoine2018, an edition under the slogan ‘Look!’. In Gruyères, three objects from the collection will be highlighted to reveal their unique destiny. With this rich programme, Swiss Castle Day offers visitors of all ages plenty to marvel at.
