Gruyères Castle is inviting Grégory Sugnaux to occupy its rooms with a series of works created in resonance with the site. For his Data Romance exhibition, the artist from Fribourg has put the historic site through a computer software filter, offering a new and surprising interpretation that oscillates between facetiousness and surrealism.

Drawing on the immeasurable flow of images propagating on the web (anonymous photographs, stock images or memes), Grégory Sugnaux selects those that correspond to specific keywords and depicts them with virtuosity in his works. The ephemeral and fleeting imagery of internet culture is thus frozen on the walls of the medieval fortress, probing both our relationship with time and our frantic consumption of images.
