Berlin, Wedding 2012. From her wanderings around the German capital, Mélanie Rouiller has produced a series of photographs that question European identity. Her images paint a portrait of the cosmopolitan concentration of a working-class district of Berlin, off the beaten tourist track and away from artificial clichés.

Unveiled for the first time at Gruyères Castle, the series of works by the Fribourg photographer was produced in 2012, during her stay at the Atelier im Wedding (the Canton of Fribourg's artistic and scientific residence in Berlin). In parallel, the exhibition explores other images, fleeting and sensitive visions of a world captured by this artist whose work revolves around the often dreamlike encounter with a place and people. The photographer's gaze is constantly challenged by her travels near and far, and through skilful framing she captures poetic impressions of the world on paper.
