Photo Esplanade – Maya Rochat

Photo Esplanade is joining forces in 2024 with the multidisciplinary project "Watching the glacier disappear". The exhibition, part of a rich program of events in Switzerland, invites us to reflect on our relationship with the environment through the work of an artist.

On this occasion, Maya Rochat (*1985) takes over the castle esplanade with a floral kaleidoscope created from an archive rescued from destruction. In this series, she works directly on slides collected by a couple of passionate amateurs. Skillfully manipulated by abrasion and acid, the scientific images are transmuted by the artist into a poetic herbarium in saturated colors. While the physical degradation of the photographs inevitably evokes that of the natural environment, Maya Rochat infuses her creations with the intense energy generated by her wonder about nature and its mysteries.
