Tobias Nussbaumer
Echo Drift
In his work, Tobias Nussbaumer intertwines and connects fragments of memories with ideas or concepts. Constructing virtual architectures from fractured recollections, he uses algorithms to create drawings and confronts theoretical concepts with digital creation and artificial machine learning software. Positioned at the intersection of memory, identity, and technology, he observes how layers of memory overlap and dissolve, both in our minds and in digital systems. In immersive installations, the Basel-based artist’s black-and-white drawings merge with the surroundings of Gruyères Castle crafting a scene in which the viewer becomes the new protagonist. In the Echo Drift exhibition, Nussbaumer continues his exploration of memory and its intrinsic link to identity shedding light on the inexorable fragility of our systems of thought.
Shown in immersive installations, black-and-white drawings by the artist from Basel come together with the environment of the Gruyères Castle to create a scene which positions the viewer as the new protagonist. In the Echo Drift exhibition, Nussbaumer continues to explore memory and the identity it entails to highlight the inexorable fragility of our thought systems.
